Since then, average attendances in the leagues have risen to 20,000, making it the fourth-most popular league by attendance in the US and Canada behind only the NFL, MLB, and CFL, as well as the seventh-most attended soccer league worldwide.

In recent years, MLS has continued to grow from strength to strength. It now has 28 teams and can boast several big names, including Kaka, Zlatan Ibrahimovic, and Gareth Bale among its alumni. Most recently, in 2022 the Seattle Sounders became the first MLS team to win the CONCACAF Champions League.

How can you follow MLS in Canada?

In Canada, TSN show all MLS games for Toronto FC and Vancouver Whitecaps live on television, as well as selected CF Montreal matches and other fixtures. CTV also show eight selected MLS matches every season. You can stream any MLS match not being shown by either TSN or CTV on DAZN, and French-language coverage including all CF Montreal games is available at TVA Sports.
